ROUND 10 PREVIEW – MYSTICS V MAGIC

After back to back matches in the South, the final round of the regular season has the GoSweetSpot Mystics back home at The Trusts Arena, Waitakere for a showdown with the Avis Magic.

With the last two away games resulting in thrilling extra time wins the Mystics are fit, healthy and in great spirits.

Mystics coach Tia Winikerei is proud of the team especially as these performances are showcasing their work and commitment during the week.

“I’m excited to see training being reflected in performance on court and how the players have all worked hard for one another. The ability of the players to get on and do their own jobs has come out strongly in both matches.”

The Mystics and Magic last met in Round 2 where the Mystics walked away with a 20 goal win, but they know that this is a different Magic team, who have nothing to lose and always bring their best when they play the Mystics.

“The Magic have stepped up across the court. Their defence is always difficult to navigate and at the moment they are relentless in their work. The connections on attack have improved. The shooters are available and can shoot. The middies are their engine room and they are fast with great ball skills. We are expecting Magic to bring it to this game and it’ll be a great contest on Saturday,” says Winikerei.

The Mystics are also stepping it up each week, Maia Wilson netting 82 from 87 attempts in the last 2 games, Peta Toeava leading the league in circle feeds and Phoenix Karaka disrupting play in the defensive circle.

Although it is incredibly tight at the top of the table, a win on Saturday would ensure the minor Premiership and a home Grand Final for the Mystics, something they are very aware of,

“Our aim is to excite our fans and leave everything out on the court. We want to celebrate our whānau and fans with a performance we are proud of. Our goal is to win and secure the Grand Final for all our people. That would be epic!” says Winikerei.

And after spending the last two weekends surrounded by vocal southern crowds Winikerei knows what the Mystics need on Saturday,

“We really need our Mystics Nation to get up and cheer loudly this weekend. The Tactix and Steel crowds were relentless on us!”

It’s time for us to support our team and do our part to secure a home Grand Final!

Bring your voice, your chants and your signs and get along to The Trusts Arena on Saturday night for a 7pm start! This will be a match you don’t want to miss!
