Round 9 of the ANZ Premiership gets underway in Christchurch on Saturday with a top of the table clash between the GoSweetSpot Mystics and the Tactix.

As we head into the penultimate round of the season, both teams are sitting equal on 19 points and only two losses, this match has the potential to decide who finishes in the coveted top spot taking out the ANZ Premiership Minor Premiership.

With so much to play for, in front of a sold out crowd, this match will have all the fire and a finals feel, much like the Super Rugby Crusaders v Blues semifinal being played across town.

The Tactix have lead this competition from the outset, steady and clinical in a full team effort. Their only two losses have been away from home, the biggest of which was to the Mystics in round 4, 52-43.

Wolfbrook Arena has become a fortress for the Tactix having not lost at home since 2024, and the Mystics could be in for another hostile welcome.

The Mystics currently hold the record for the best attacking team after 8 rounds, while the Tactix are the best defensive team. This sets the scene for a titanic battle between Maia Wilson, Filda Vui and Sophia Lafailai’i against the Tactix defenders, Ash Barnett and Laura Balmer.

Vui has hit some of her best form in the last two rounds, working alongside Peta Toeava and Tayla Earle, they are an attacking unit that is nearly incomparable in speed, skill and creativity.

For the Tactix, they boast the best two point shooter in the league, Amorangi Malesala, who has successfully slotted 14 double pointers so far this season, and with it the ability to turn a tight match.

With both teams already locking down their place in the finals series, the Tactix will be wanting to get back into winning form after a loss last week, while the Mystics will want to kept building on the form and team connectivity that seems to be growing each week.

This match is set to be a battle to the final whistle and is not to be missed!
