The SKYCITY Mystics have announced their first four signings for the 2018 ANZ Premiership including newcomer Jamie Hume.
Silver Fern shooter Bailey Mes will again wear the blue strip next year alongside one of the Premiership’s most exciting mid-courters in Elisapeta Toeava.
Hume makes the move from her home in the Deep South to join the Mystics while Tera-Maria Armani has signed on for a second season with the side having made her debut in the inaugural ANZ Premiership.
SKYCITY Mystics chief executive Julie Paterson said this was always a busy time of the season and they were pleased to be building their squad including the introduction of some new players alongside core players from this year’s campaign.
“It is exciting to announce that first wave of player signings for the SKYCITY Mystics and we look forward to adding a mixture of experience and fresh faces to the side,” she said.
“We’re lucky to welcome back Bailey and Elisapeta who made up such a strong component of our attacking end, along with youngster Tera-Maria who is also back to the Mystics as well as goal attack Jamie who brings something new to the squad.”
Mes and Toeava formed an exciting combination up front for the Mystics this season with the Silver Fern shooter showing her strong aerial game while Toeava set the league alight with her speed on the wing coupled with her vision and ability to thread the ball through defenders to her shooters.
Armani made her premiership debut against the Northern Stars this year and also featured for the Mystics at the Super Club competition in Nelson recently.
Hume will make her first appearance in the Mystics strip having starred for the Southern Steel at goal attack in the latter stages of the ANZ Premiership and also was an influential member of the region’s Beko Netball League side.
The Clyde-born netballer was also part of New Zealand’s under-21 squad and last year was a Silver Fern trialist.
The ANZ Premiership is New Zealand’s elite netball league and enjoyed a successful inaugural season this year.
