ROUND 3 – MYSTICS V STEEL PREVIEW

For the first time in the 2026 season the GoSweetSpot Mystics will take to the court in front of a home crowd as they take on the Southern Steel at Event Finda Stadium, North Shore.

Coming off two tough away matches Mystics Captain Michaela Sokolich-Beatson is excited to finally be on a home court, “We love playing in front of a Mystics Nation, because they really get behind us, they’re loud, they wear their blue, and it’s just nice to be surrounded by our friends and our family.”

With both teams taking maximum points away from round two, Sunday’s match is poised to be an epic clash as they both aim to stay on a winning streak.

“I think it’s an awesome challenge for us to face a team full of confidence, they should be confident and they deserve to be confident. They played really well and I thought that they stuck to what they were trying to execute and they executed well. So kudos to them and we look forward to going up against them,” says Sokolich-Beatson.

Continuing her form from 2025, Mystics defender Catherine Hall has had a stellar start to the season, leading the competition with the most intercepts and deflections, which is why Sokolich-Beatson thinks that the battle of the GK’s will be the match up to watch.

“I know they don’t play each other but I’m just really excited to see Cat at one end and Carys at the other. They’re both really good, strong defenders and anchors in their teams, so excited to see them go up.”

They will each be up against two of the most prolific shooters in the league, Aliyah Dunn and Maia Wilson, who are both calm, steady and accurate under the post.

Any turnovers that Hall or Stythe can pick up off these shooters could be where the game is won.

This is also a very special milestone match for Maia Wilson as she steps out for her 150th National League game, something the entire team is inspired by.

“Maia’s 150th, I think it is just amazing. The strength it must take after 147 games to have a refresh and go to new team. She’s just bringing so much energy and passion to our attacking end and really helping the youngsters. Giving a rocket to us when we need it but also supporting us and giving us manaaki when we need it to. I have just really loved having her here,” says Sokolich-Beatson.

Get to Event Finda Stadium to support the Mystics as they look to continue their winning streak on the North Shore and celebrate 150 matches for Wilson with a win.

There is no doubt that this is the match of Round 3 – Don’t miss it!
