ROUND 4 – MYSTICS V TACTIX JOIN US FOR A PARTY AT PETA’S PLACE!

The GoSweetSpot Mystics are back home at The Trusts Arena, Waitakere to kick off Round 4 against the top of the table Tactix.
But, this is not any ordinary match day. Saturday 2nd May is when we celebrate a huge milestone for our midcourt maestro Peta Toeava!
When Peta steps out on court she will be only the third player ever to play 150 National League Matches all for one team!
And we are so proud that for 150 games Peta has chosen the Mystics.
Incredibly shy, it’s hard to pin Peta down to talk about herself, but this is a pretty big achievement so she’s shared some thoughts on this milestone and her career so far:
Q: Peta, 150 National League games, a huge milestone. How does it make you feel?
Honestly, it’s pretty surreal. When I think about it you really don’t play for milestones, you just show up each day, do the work and compete. So to look back and realise it’s 150, it’s something I’m really proud of.
Q: Your 150 is especially special as you’ve played all of these matches for the Mystics. What do you love about this team?
What I love about the Mystics is the people. This club has always been the team I’ve wanted to play for growing up. It feels like home. There’s a real sense of connection and pride in the dress, and a standard that’s been built over time.
Q: What keeps you coming back each year?
The culture we’ve built over time. The people in this club. We’re always evolving, always pushing to be better. There’s a hunger here, not just to win but to grow. And when you’re around people who want to improve everyday it makes you want to keep showing up.
Q: What have been some of your highlights from the past 150 games?
Definitely the 2021 Premiership. That was something really special to be a part of. But also the smaller moments, the big wins, the tough games where we’ve had to find a way. But most importantly, the journey with my teammates. These moments sick with you forever.
Q: Who have you loved playing with the most?
This one’s hard because I’ve been lucky enough to play with so many amazing players. The combinations I’ve built over time, especially in the midcourt and attack, these connections are special.
Q: Who have you learned the most from?
I’ve learnt alot from a mix of coaches, but if I had to pick I’d say Rob Wright. He’s helped me understand my skillset on a deeper level and how to use it more effectively.
Q: Who are your biggest supporters?
My family always. They’ve been there from the start and contiue to support me. And my teammates.
Q: What were you like back in 2013, at the start?
I was young, shy, observant and probably a bit raw. I just wanted to play, take risks and express myself on court.
Q: How have you changed?
I think I’ve grown a lot in terms of understanding the game. I’m more composed (sometimes) haha, more intentional with my decisions, and I value the team aspect even more now. I still play with flair but there’s more control and purpose behind it.
Q: What do you still want to achieve?
There’s always more. That’s why I’m still here. I want to contribute to a winning environment, help drive success for the team and continue to grow as a leader. I want to leave the dress in a better place.
Q: What does the team need to do to celebrate your milestone with a win?
It comes down to us doing our own jobs and doing them well. Executing the small moments . Staying connected, being disciplined and having each others backs. If we do all of that we give ourselves the best chance to get the result.
