2025 GRAND FINAL PREVIEW – Mystics v Tactix

After 10 rounds of fierce competition the 2025 ANZ Premiership title will be decided this Sunday 27th July at The Trusts Arena, Waitakere.
In front of a full house, the two dominant teams of this season, the Northern Mystics and Mainland Tactix, will meet for a third and final time. With the score tied at one match each, both sides will be desperate to take the win and lift the trophy.
Written off by many at the start of the season, the reigning campion Mystics quietly built on their already strong foundations, growing steadily each week.
“I’m so proud of the team. I think we’ve come together so well as the season’s gone on. And there’s just been a collective drive to be better week in week out, to go to places that are uncomfortable, to celebrate
success and then to just have fun while doing all of that” sums up Captain Michaela Sokolich-Beatson.
The Mystics head into Sunday’s clash after having a week off, whereas the Tactix are coming in hot off a tough Elimination Final, ready to take revenge on the side that took them out of finals contention last year.
Sokolich-Beatson knows that this match is going to be a battle to the very end, “It’s really hard to say where the game will be won. I think both ends have strength through D, midcourt and the shooting circle. I think it’ll be about the collective group and how the team can work together. Both teams have a strong bench so it will be about how you can utilise the bench to change the momentum, to shift the game. It’s going to be anyone’s game and it can be won anywhere on court.”
With tantilising match ups throughout court, a pivotal position may be the two Goal Attack’s and they way they utilise the two point shot. Te Paea Selby-Rickitt and Filda Vui have both proven how accurate they can be in the two point zone and under pressure, and both have the ability to
swing a match.
One thing the Mystics are hoping to draw on is playing in their home stadium and infront of many loyal Mystics fans, “I think to be where we’re comfortable, in front of our fans, with our people around us, facilities we know and just that real game day routine of home, I think that’s awesome. We’re so lucky. The Mystics nation are epic. They’re loud.
They’re loyal. They have come out in numbers this year like I have never seen in my 10 years at Mystics. To see that and to have that, it’s so special. So to get to play one more game in front of them, I think is really cool” says Sokolich-Beatson.
“We’ve done all the prep that we could have done throughout the season
and in the last couple of weeks. So it’s just excitement now for us.”
