LG Mystics Ready For Waipa

 

The LG Mystics have another opportunity to test themselves prior to the 2009 ANZ Championships.

The team is set to compete in the Waipa pre-season tournament beginning on Friday 20 March at the Te Awamutu Events Centre. Hosted by the Waikato Bay of Plenty Magic franchise the tournament features four of the five New Zealand teams: LG Mystics, Magic, Central Pulse and Canterbury Tactix.

And while the LG Mystics won their first pre-season tournament held in Queenstown a couple of weeks ago their task this weekend will be a little more difficult as both Villi Davu and Temepara George will be absent at a wedding in Northland.

However coach TeAroha Keenan says the loss of the two experienced campaigners won’t be felt too hard in what she regards as an essential warm up to the season.

“We have pre-planned this week so that players have understood it’s a big opportunity to perform and show what they can do. We have some team goals which are set,” says Keenan. “It will be good to have a go against the Magic, just to see where things are at.”

 

One of the key matches to watch in the tournament will be the clash between the LG Mystics and last year’s round robin champions, the Magic. This game will also be a preview of the first match of the season for each franchise when they play Monday 6 April at the Trusts Stadium, Waitakere.
